In 2022, Light of Hearts Villa faced a Medicaid deficit of $860,429, highlighting the importance of our cause. Life often takes unexpected turns, and even the most diligent families can find their savings depleted quicker than expected. Our Benevolent Fund at Light of Hearts Villa serves as a vital resource for individuals who are unable to pay or have exhausted their financial means.

When seniors reach a point where they depend on Medicaid, their options for senior living facilities become limited. Many such facilities do not accept Medicaid-only residents, making our mission even more vital. Medicaid is a joint program funded by both state and federal governments, and in states like Ohio, the payments often fall short of covering the full cost of care for Medicaid beneficiaries, including some of our residents. Our Medicaid deficit in 2022 amounted to $860,429, signifying the additional income we would have received if all our residents were private pay residents, akin to most corporate for-profit care facilities.

In the past year, approximately 40% of our residents at Light of Hearts Villa lacked the means to pay privately, and this percentage is rising in 2023 and beyond. In response to this growing need, we successfully pursued Medicaid certification for all our rooms in 2022. This certification reinforces our commitment to offering benevolent care to those who require it.

Our faith-based mission compels us to meet this escalating need, and we stand by our promise to every resident: no one will be asked to leave if they outlive their resources. Your generous contributions are instrumental in upholding this commitment.

Affiliation: Light of Hearts Villa is a 501(c)3 Licensed Residential Care Facility and is sponsored by the Sisters of Charity Health System. The Sisters of Charity Health System is a broader organization that includes healthcare facilities, grant-making foundations, and health and human services organizations in Ohio and South Carolina.
