Who We Are

We, the faith filled community of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, affirm the response of the Blessed Virgin by proclaiming "We are the Lord's servant" (Luke 1:38) through Worship, Spiritual Development, Education and Outreach.

Guided by our Heavenly Mother Mary, the Assumption Academy family prepares future leaders through faith formation, academic growth, and service to others.

In 1857, four years before the Civil War began, the mission church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was organized.  In 1957 an eleven-classroom school was built. The Sisters of the Incarnate Word, from Parma Heights, were invited to staff it. Sr. Agnes (formerly Bernadette Kane, SIW) was the first principal to lead five sisters and four lay teachers. They staffed eight grades in eight of the ten classrooms. Approximately 375 students were enrolled in the first year. In 1967 tuition was initiated.

The 2019-2020 school year ushered in a new era for Catholic education in Broadview Heights. A partnership was formed with Saint Albert the Great School in North Royalton. This partnership was the answer to many prayers and has revitalized the Assumption community. Assumption Academy maintains its many great traditions, while embracing new changes such as a new master schedule, new curriculum, new textbooks, new technology, and new faces, which all added exponential value to the educational experience.

Now in 2024 we are six years into the partnership and continuing to strengthen and evolve as partners in Catholic education! The school enrollment is up, as are our test scores. The Catholic culture is irresistible and our community is family focused. We have much more to come and are continuously working to realize an exceptional education that is anchored in faith.
