Clean water for health and dignity

The children at COAR’s Children’s Village are on remarkable journeys — healing from trauma, finding hope, and building brighter futures with the support of caring professionals. They deserve an environment that reflects that commitment.

Right now, the water and sewage systems that keep them safe are failing. Decades-old pipes are cracked and leaking, allowing dirt and bacteria to contaminate the water. Despite years of patching and repairs, the system has reached its limit and needs a complete overhaul.

This Giving Tuesday, you can help us rebuild. Clean water and safe sewage aren’t luxuries — they’re essential for health and dignity. Thanks to a few generous donors, we’ve raised nearly half of the funds for this project, but we need another $75,000 beyond our normal operating costs to make this a reality. Every gift brings us closer to giving these children the safe, healthy home they deserve.

Who We Are

The COAR Peace Mission is a lay charity of the Diocese of Cleveland and a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Since 1980 COAR has sheltered, educated, and supported resilient children in El Salvador through the Children's Village (a residential foster care home for children) and the Catholic Education Complex (one of the best schools in the country). Founded in 1980 following a call from Saint Romero to the Cleveland Latin American Mission team requesting their help in protecting the most volnerable, COAR immediately began taking in war orphans and has cared for victims of violence, abuse, and human trafficking ever since.

Our work in El Salvador is implemented by local Salvadoran experts in child care, and is administered in collaboration with Archbishop Escobar and others at the Archdiocese of San Salvador. Our small Cleveland-based team works out of the Diocese's Center for Pastoral Leadership.
