The history of Mount Alverna Village dates back to 1946, when the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago in Cleveland responded to Archbishop Edward Hoban’s request to shelter and care for fourteen elderly women who had survived a fire at Jennings Hall in Garfield Heights.  The Sisters graciously opened their home on Terrace Road in East Cleveland and began caring for them.  Archbishop Hoban proposed that the Sisters build a home for the aged, and, in 1953, Alvernia Rest Home opened as the first Catholic convalescent home for the aged in Greater Cleveland. Alvernia Rest Home was the foundation of today’s Mount Alverna Village.

Now, nearly 70 years later, Mount Alverna Village provides quality senior living and compassionate healthcare services including assisted living, memory support, skilled nursing, and rehabilitation services.
