The Village of St. Edward

The Village of St. Edward is a non-profit, faith-based, senior living community offering Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Nursing Care services. 

Our mission is to support and enrich lives with compassionate, Christ-centered care. 

In September of 1964, after years of planning, many prayers, and support from the community, Akron's Sisters of St. Dominic opened St. Edward Home, the three-story, 101-bed facility dedicated to caring for Akron's aging, now known as The Village of St. Edward. 

The Dominican Sisters saw a need.

Though they had little experience, their faith in God and commitment to service gave families confidence in their ability to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of residents and their families.  

Today, sixty years later, The Village of St. Edward continues to provide compassionate, faith-based care, annually serving nearly 800 residents and their families at communities in Fairlawn, Green, and Wadsworth. 

Spiritual Care - It's Personal 

How do you nurture your faith? Most of us enjoy the benefits of regularly participating in a faith community. We attend Mass and worship services. We're encouraged and challenged within our church. As loved ones age, they may experience physical declines, emotional challenges in facing death, or feelings of loneliness they don't want to discuss with family. Easy access to the resources of a built-in faith community becomes critical. 

Spiritual Care of Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox tenets is a core function of The Village and is regularly identified as a key reason why families choose The Village for their loved ones. 

Every day, full-time and part-time staff, supplemented by visiting priests, pastors, and lay leaders, meet the spiritual care needs of residents and their families. Beautiful chapels in each community provide residents and families easy access to worship, prayer, and reflection. 

When someone moves to The Village of St. Edward, it becomes their home, their parish, their community. It's a place to live, play, make friends, and worship. And in the end, it's often the place they choose for their funeral.

On September 25, 2024, the Village of St. Edward honored our Dominican Heritage and celebrated sixty years of ministry and sixty years of providing faith-based care for the region's seniors. 

In honor of this anniversary and to ensure permanent resources for the Spiritual Care ministry, The Village seeks to continue to grow the current endowment.
