What would Stella say?
Stella Pandur was a feisty lady who served 13 years as president of the St. Francis Xavier Parish Ladies Guild. But more than that, she owned the kitchen in our church basement. In the 1960s and '70s, nothing happened in that kitchen without Stella's full permission. Stella made sure everything was clean and orderly, with not a spoon out of place.
It's been 37 years since Stella died at age 72, and well, let's just say the kitchen isn't quite the same without her. Or rather -- the cabinets, counters and even some appliances are exactly the same. But they are no longer easy to use. It takes a mighty tug to open silverware drawers. Cabinets are inefficient for today's storage needs. You can't plug in more than one crock pot without blowing a fuse. (Stella would be blowing a fuse too!)
It would be wonderful (and more sanitary!) to have a functional dishwasher again. We need ample counter space for preparing and serving school lunches, Life Teen and confirmation meals, soup nights, Hospitality Sunday donuts and coffee, after-school Latchkey snacks and so much more. An icemaker would save us from hasty trips to the convenience store for bags of ice, and how about a new (and clean!) stove?
We know this is a MASSIVE undertaking. (Have you remodeled your own kitchen lately?) We are still getting quotes for new cabinets, counters, appliances, flooring and more, but we know this project will be quite costly. And yet, it is SO needed.
So, here's the plan: Join us on our mission to give our humble kitchen a holy makeover. To make this heavenly vision a reality, we need your help! Remember, even 5 loaves and 2 fish were multiplied to feed the 5,000!
Thank you for your support!
