Who can donate to #weGIVECATHOLIC?
Anyone can donate! Because this takes place online, donors will need a credit card and access to the Internet. Because it is so much easier for people to give online to their favorite ministry from wherever they are in the world, most people will donate using this method. However, donors are welcome to bring a donation by cash or check to a participating organization site, and the gift can still be entered and included in the leaderboard totals viewed online.
What forms of donations are accepted for #weGIVECATHOLIC??
Donors may give via credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express), debit card, ACH, PayPal, Venmo, Google Pay, ApplePay, Donor Advised or Other Managed Funds. Donors may select their payment method by clicking the 'payment method' dropdown at checkout.
Donations will be accepted through the #weGIVECATHOLIC website starting at early giving (November 23 at 12:00 AM) through Giving Tuesday, December 3. Donor-advised fund holders at the Catholic Community Foundation may recommend grants from their funds. Offline donations via check, cash, or stock will be accepted directly by the organization you choose to support.
If you plan to recommend a gift through a third-party institution, enter information about your intended gift within the Donor Advised or Other Managed Funds payment method during checkout. Please note that by selecting this option, no funds or payments will be made or collected through the platform. Your recorded donation commitment will be added to the organization's total, and the organization will be notified of your commitment. The donor, organization, and relationship manager are responsible for following up on fulfilling payment.

Generally, a donor advised fund is a separately identified fund or account that is maintained and operated by a section 501(c)(3) organization, which is called a sponsoring organization (here, the sponsoring organization is Mightycause Charitable Foundation). Each account is composed of contributions made by individual donors. Once the donor makes the contribution, the organization has legal control over it. However, the donor, or the donor's representative, retains advisory privileges with respect to the distribution of funds. Mightycause makes every reasonable effort to respect the wishes of its donors and promptly regrant donations to the donor advised organizations. As required by federal tax laws and the Internal Revenue Service, Mightycause, as a donor advised fund, must retain the exclusive authority, discretion, and legal control over all donated funds. In the rare event that the organization a donor has advised does not satisfy Mightycause’s criteria or otherwise enable Mightycause to pay them (reasons for this include issues like: they don’t or cannot accept donations, are not recognized by the IRS as a qualified organization, or are not in good standing with federal or state regulators, etc.), Mightycause may select an alternate qualified organization to receive your donated funds. Mightycause has successfully re-granted over 99% of donations to their intended recipient, so this doesn’t happen very often.
May I designate how a school, parish, Catholic Charities, or not-for-profit uses my gift?
#weGIVECATHOLIC Giving Day gifts are considered unrestricted gifts to the designated school, parish, Catholic Charities, or not-for-profit.
Are there fees associated with donations to #weGIVECATHOLIC?
All donations will be paid to the chosen ministry minus vendor and credit card transaction fees of 5% + 30 cents for each credit/debit card donation. You will have the option to cover the fees, and if you choose this option, 100% of your online charitable gift will go to the receiving organization. The Catholic Community Foundation will assess no additional fees.
For donations over $50, the website will allow you to submit payment through your bank account. This could save you and/or the benefiting organization on transaction fees. For donors who give via their bank account, credit card processing fees will be replaced by a 1% transaction fee, plus a $1.50 fixed fee per transaction (total ACH processing fees will be capped at $5.00). A platform fee will still apply.
All donations are final and cannot be refunded. Donors will receive a tax deduction on the full donation amount.
