Centering Christ in our Lives

We are well into the year of the Eucharistic Revival and are looking forward to many more events to help us grow in our appreciation of Jesus’ Real Presence in the Eucharist.

Something I have noticed over the last couple of years is that Jesus Christ is not always at the center of our lives. I believe He is still part of our lives but not at the center, more off to the side. I love our church building and find it a beautiful worship space. It is sacred, reverent, and inviting. However, I am concerned about the location of the Tabernacle. The Tabernacle is the place where the Real Presence of Jesus Christ, our Lord, is located at all times (except Good Friday – Holy Saturday). I have talked with Parish and Finance Council for their input and would like to relocate our Tabernacle to the center of the Sanctuary underneath the crucifix. We all know that, in a very special way, Christ is present in the Eucharist. The Eucharist is kept in the Tabernacle, the holiest space in the church. Therefore, this move makes a lot of sense. By moving the location to the front and center of the Sanctuary, it will help us to better focus on Christ and His presence in our lives. While I understand the ‘theology’ behind why many churches moved their Tabernacles after Vatican II, I think it might not have been the greatest idea. History can make that judgment, but here at SJC we can literally put Christ’s special presence front and center so that all will know of His prominence.

In addition, our current Tabernacle front is quite worn, and Christ deserves the best. We can add a new front to the Tabernacle that is worthy of the Lord’s presence. I have included a picture of what this would look like. We would also replace the worn-out carpet on these steps with tile that would compliment the colors in the Altar. Finally, we would get a new Sanctuary Light stand to match our candlesticks processional cross.

We would move the statue of St. John of the Cross that is currently to the right of the crucifix to where the Tabernacle is currently located. I have included a picture of what this would look like.

The total cost for this project will be $24,000. This is a special and very important project. We have some dedication/memorial opportunities available if you would like to do this or you can make a general donation of any amount. Every donation helps supports the desire to put the Lord, Jesus at the center and prominent place in our church worship space as well as remind us the centrality of Jesus in each our lives.
