A Visit from the 8th Grade Class
Twas around Thanksgiving break,
And all throughout the school
The 8th grade students were stirring,
Some even falling off their stool!
The homework was completed, sometimes amidst chatter,
In the hopes that their voices and efforts would matter.
Notebooks and textbooks are packed in lockers and cubbies,
Just the other day, truly, there was talk of Teletubbies!
The minds of these 8th graders run with imagination, no doubt.
Excited to let all of their creative thoughts pour out!
When out on the playground, a cacophony of odd sounds,
They shout and they skip; the silliness abounds.
Proud of their uniqueness and proud of their words
Upon our quote boards are sentences you’ve never heard!
Above all, and amongst the joy-filled fun,
As the We Give Catholic fundraiser has begun,
We rely on one fact that we know to be true,
In our hearts is the Lord, and the Lord is in you.
So, Mrs. Knotts whistled (although, really, she doesn’t know how)
And she called all her students by name – please, gather now!
“Sydney, Ellis, Elise, and Mia!
Noelle, Chloe, Hadley, and Eva!
Giuseppe, Aiden with an E, and Aidan with an A!
Nate, Eli, Liam W., and Liam K!
Emilio, Evan, Jackson, and Jimmy!
Mark, Caroline, Emma, and Emery!”
And then came Mrs. Brayer, who sang out the call
To all her homeroom, come one, come all!
“Alaina, Addison, Liberty, and Ava!
Lilli, Leah, Liliana, and Dana!
Jason, John, Asher, and Charlie!
Luke, Luca, Liam, and Augie!
Donovan, Trevor, Kam, and Benny!
Quinn, Riley, and, of course, Aubrey!”
Off we all go, soaring onto new heights,
With more expectations, more grit, and more might.
High school applications – they must begin soon, too.
We have to get serious; we know now what to do.
As new responsibilities pile, and there’s less time to play,
The children asked, “Could we just be A Kid for a Day?”
“If we meet our goal, we’ll wear PJ’s—”
“—play games!”
“— maybe a movie?”
“Oh, this sounds so exciting – how soon could this be!?”
